Fitzroy

The Fitzroy course is in the heart of New Plymouth city, and it is a true links course of 18 holes with panoramic views of Mount Egmont (Taranaki) and the Tasman Sea. Course length is 4977 metres for men with a par of 68 and 4585 metres for women with a par of 70. The course is easy walking and its undulating nature requires golfers to play shots above and below their feet, into elevated and sometimes terraced greens. Therein lies its challenge; its short length does not necessarily mean low scores, and unpredictable lies affecting stance and line up can produce some challenges on otherwise easy looking holes. There is a saying that “ if you can play golf at Fitzroy, you play golf anywhere’.

Generally regarded as a Municipal Course, Fitzroy is open to anyone who wishes to play a game of golf- the Club prides itself on being “The Friendly Club” to visitors and locals alike. Over 5000 outside players use the course each year and a good number of these are visitors to the city.

Good use is made of the course by local and national business houses for tournaments and team building exercises and increasing use is being made by the public of the clubhouse for social functions where guests can enjoy stunning views of the Taranaki coastline from the elevated site.
